Mauro Manca

Acoustic Guitar and Vocals

a12

Mauro Manca was born in Sassari (Italy) in 1968 and starter to study the guitar at 15 years But given the musical panorama, (at the start of the 80s ), wich was still rich with the groups that later wrote the book of rock and blues, he was immediatly influenced by the great guitarist singer-songwriter Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits who left such an impression on him that even now Mauro never plays with a plectrum wether playng acoustic or electric.
He began his live performances around 1988 with "Aria Compressa" and gained a discreet success with them.
Also, at the same time, he played with "Stage Band" which included Fabrizio Sulliotti and from there began his professional relationship.
Other experiences came along too including one notable one with the international giants "The Platters".
Then came the "D.O.C. Sound" experience at the end of the 90s first with electric and then finally and totally his dedication to only acoustic instruments!!
Another point, to make clear his direction and resolve, is the esteem for Fabrizio De Andrè a famous italian singer-songwriter of whose lyrics profoundly moved him.
Mauro, with Fabrizio, often writes songs and they have had one of these presented at the selection for the festival of Napoli.
He uses exclusively "Fender Stratocaster ®" (one even being a limited edition from the early 80s ) and an italian hand-built-made acoustic guitar on wich he uses steel strings.
In the first 2 CDs "Acoustic Machine" Vol. 1 & 2 as well as playing rhythm and lead guitar he also sings lead vocals in english and italian.
In the last two works "Acoustic machine vol°3" and " D.O.C. Sound MMIV d.C." he plays also some etnics songs from "Sardinia".
Here is included an acoustic version of "Mere Manna" written by Piero Marras : One of the most beautiful ballad songs from Sardinia.
He played with D.O.C. Sound a concert in honour of Fabrizio De Andrè one year after his death.
